ROCK 'n' ROLL LADIES

Return to Song Index

Oh I was just seventeen, eager but green,
playin' the teen clubs, makin' the scene.
When in through the door, out on the floor,
there strode a diva in velvet and tight bell bottom jeans.

A rock 'n' roll lady, all painted and shady.
She looked at me I thought my prospects was bright!
A rock 'n' roll lady, so sexy and crazy.
Nodded her head, we were on for the night.

Hell I was just about twenty, known famine and plenty,
I was playin' the bars man, thinkin' I was cool.
She was just under thirty, not common not flirty,
all alone at the bar she was nobody's fool.

A rock 'n' roll lady, all painted and shady.
She looked at me like she had plans for the night.
A rock 'n' roll lady, so sexy and crazy.
I flashed her a smile and she nodded alright!

Oh meanwhile...
Back in the bars, drivin' beat up old cars,
makin' fifty and drinks, oh man this life stinks!
Up rolls a Mercedes Benz, I'm tellin' ya friend,
she was slummin' for the night in her diamonds and mink.

A rock 'n' roll lady, all painted and shady.
She looked at me, and gave me a wink.
A rock 'n' roll lady, so sexy and crazy.
Wearin' nothin' but diamonds when she slipped off the mink!

Rock 'n' roll ladies, all painted and shady.
The kinda women mama warned me about.
Rock 'n' roll ladies, so sexy and crazy.
The kinda woman I can't live without!

Somewhat biographical, or not...
Old tune (Pro Audio 9 in 2003?), never happy with it. Started out in D, never could get the "rock falsetto" working (man I wore that out a looong time ago). Moved it to G and viola, suddenly I could handle the vocal. Had to pitch shift the harp from the original takes. Fortunately it was done on a "high G" harmonica. I think it shifted down 7 half steps pretty well! That was done in Reaper, I tried to do the whole re-make in Reaper. Got frustrated polishing up the drums and piano; "ported" it back to Splat.
Boy am I glad we are moving forward with Cakewalk by BandLab!
Guitars, vocals, cow bell, tambourine, midi programming: Me!
Drums: EZD2
Bass: Trilian
Piano: TTS-1
Harp: my good buddy Jeff "All In" Lee
mastered with Ozone 8 advanced
(please note, that's a "small m")
